The Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) is a multidisciplinary organization committed to improving the physical and psychosocial health and well-being of all adolescents through advocacy, clinical care, health promotion, health service delivery, professional development, and research.
The Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine will be the leader in promoting optimal health and well-being for adolescents and young adults.
Recognizing that health is more than the absence of disease, the Society for Adolescent Health and Medicine (SAHM) promotes positive youth development, illness prevention, achievement of individual potential and a sense of physical, mental, and social well-being.
In its pursuit of optimal adolescent health and developmentally-appropriate health care, SAHM believes that scientific research provides the evidence base for effective health promotion as well as prevention and treatment of illness and injury.
Four core values underlie SAHM’s Mission and Vision:
o EXCELLENCE: SAHM strives to achieve the highest attainable standard in its mission.
o LEADERSHIP: SAHM strives to be the preeminent organization and authoritative voice in advancing adolescent health by increasing awareness of the health needs of adolescents and young adults through effective advocacy, communication and dissemination of knowledge.
o INTEGRITY: SAHM is guided by the highest ideals and ethical standards, including respect for individual dignity, equity, and justice, and recognition that age-appropriate developmentally-sensitive health care is a right not a privilege.
o COLLABORATION: SAHM recognizes that advancing adolescent health depends upon effective partnerships among adolescents, families, health professionals, public and private sectors, communities, schools, and other social institutions.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGIONAL CHAPTER (RM-SAHM)
RM-SAHM is the Regional Chapter for Colorado and Wyoming. Founded in 1981, it is a diverse, multidisciplinary group of over 100 registered members, plus over 100 additional interested health care professionals on the mailing list, who care about adolescent health. The Mission, Vision, and Core Values of RM-SAHM are those of national SAHM. Meetings are held four times a year: two as dinner education meetings with a 1.5 hour presentation (January, August), one as a full day "Hot Topics in Adolescent Medicine" Conference (October), and one as an annual banquet recognizing the recipient of the Chapter's Kathleen Ann Mullen Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Adolescent Health (April}. The January meeting functions also as a business meeting to elect the President-Elect and recognize the Chapter's Nominee for the SAHM Regional Chapter President's Award. Officers of the Chapter serve from May 1 to April 30 of the following year. The Chapter dues are $20/year. Membership is not required to be part of the Chapter's e-group distribution list to receive all announcements and adolescent health information forwarded from a variety of resources. Benefits of membership and the current Executive Committee are listed on the JOIN RM-SAHM page of our website. Please feel free to contact the Chapter via email or the Chapter Officers by phone.
